'AS God is my witness': President denied the signing of Official Secrets Amendment Bill 2023 and Pakistan Army Amendment Bill 2023 as he disagreed with these laws.
In a surprising twist, President Arif Alvi has revealed that he did not provide his signature to pass the amendments to the Official Secrets Act and the Pakistan Army Act into law. He disagreed with these laws and accused his staff of going against his wishes.
Alvi stated on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), "I want to emphasize that I did not approve the Official Secrets Amendment Bill, 2023, and the Pakistan Army Amendment Bill, 2023 due to my disagreements with their content."
The president disclosed that he had instructed his staff to return the bills unsigned within the specified time frame to prevent their implementation.
"When I asked them again if the invoices had been returned, they told me that they had. However, I have now discovered that my staff acted contrary to my instructions. I believe that Allah, who knows all, will grant forgiveness. Nevertheless, I seek forgiveness from those who might be adversely affected," the president expressed.
